As a nonprofit development professional, I am attuned to the ways in which philanthropy reproduces structures of inequality, as well as my complicity within this flawed system. Some of my research explores models of resistance both within and without the social sector. (This is basically an effort to channel my cynicism into something productive.)
One of my ongoing projects, which began with my MA research, is exploring the ways in which cultural institutions shape our interactions with the “natural” world. I have conducted fieldwork in zoos, natural history museums, and botanical gardens, among other sites.
